Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 °F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate the triangles. Place two apple slices in one of the dough triangles (sprinkle with additional cinnamon or cinnamon sugar -optional) Wrap apple in crescent dough and set in the greased baking dish.
In a saucepan over medium-high heat melt butter then whisk in the sugar until melted. Add in cinnamon and vanilla (optional) and stir until combined. Pour over the top of the dumplings.
Pour mountain dew around the edges of the 9 x13 pan (around the dumplings not on top of them).
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the tops of the dumplings are golden and the syrup is bubbly. Let cool for 3 to 5 minutes for the syrup to set. Enjoy
Notes
For faster prep use an apple corer/slicer. This also makes the sliced more uniform for even cooking.
Any kind of apple works for this recipe. I recommend granny smith because the tart goes well with the sweet, but if you have other apples on hand you can use what you have.
