This crowd-pleasing Praline Snack Mix brings together the best of both worlds: the flavors of classic Southern pralines and the satisfying crunch of traditional party mix! Every bite delivers a perfect balance of sweet and salty, with toasted pecans, crispy cereal, and crunchy pretzels all wrapped in a warmly spiced brown sugar coating that makes it impossible to stop at just one handful.
Melt your butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Once the butter is completely melted, add the brown sugar and ½ cup of white granulated sugar. Whisk to combine.
Add in the vanilla extract and ground cinnamon. Whisk again to combine and then let the mixture cook over medium-high heat for 3 minutes.
After 3 minutes, fold in the chex, pecans, and pretzels. Make sure the snack mix is evenly coated in the sugar mixture.
Spread the snack mix out on a 9x13 inch baking sheet and sprinkle it with the remaining granulated sugar. Bake the snack mix for 25 minutes.
Let your snack mix cool on the counter until it is warm to the touch and then break it up and transfer it to a serving bowl.
Serve and enjoy!
Notes
We prefer the taste of rice chex, but you can use corn chex as well.
You can use whole pecans or chopped pecans in addition to halved pecans. You can also use a combination if you want a variety of sizes in your snack mix. Halved pecans give the most quintessential “pecan praline” look.
I use light brown sugar to avoid over-sweetening my snack mix. Dark brown sugar is made with more molasses than light brown sugar so it will give a richer, stronger, sweeter flavor. If you have a big sweet tooth then you can definitely use it instead of light brown sugar.
If you are using unsalted butter then you’ll want to whisk in 1 teaspoon of salt along with the sugars. You can also sprinkle some salt onto the snack mix as it comes out of the oven.
It is important to let your snack mix cool before serving it. The sugar mixture will be quite hot and can easily burn you. Usually my snack mix needs to cool for about 10 minutes before it's cool enough to touch.
You can serve this snack mix as soon as it is cool enough to handle, or you can let it cool completely. Once cooled completely the snack mix will be a bit crunchier.
Store your snack mix in an airtight container or ziploc bag on the counter for up to 2 weeks.
We like to use circular pretzels (similar to what you would find in store bought chex mix) but any shape of small pretzel will work just fine.
